  1. Just keep in my that I don't own EGLC, but I do own Landmarks London and, as said above, it was the first place I flew around after installing ALL the updates. London Landmarks is not broken. There could be some issue with some building or something like that which I didn't notice, but London Landmarks certainly does not crash SU5 with the updates to all the World Updates. I am using the Orbx version, but it hasn't changed in months and is the same as the current MS Marketplace version.
  2. The first place I went yesterday after installing all the updates (including going to Content Manager and installing all five updates for all five previous World Updates (!!)) was London to check out how my Orbx London pack was doing. Looked great to me, though I may have missed something and, of course, it was a lot smoother FPS wise, so I'm happy. However, there is a message in the forums of another well-known developer that I will post below. I learned my lesson about posting anything about a non-Orbx partner here, so I won't mention them or their product by name, but it seems to imply that we are all about to see a LOT of updates to various sceneries in MSFS-land... If you have updated to Sim Update V.. please read carefully:With the July 27, 2021 MSFS update (Sim Update V), there has been numerous changes to the game engine. Some of the changes make wrong textures show at addon airports. If you purchased **** via the MSFS Marketplace:We've had early access to Sim Update V and have already submitted a **** update for Microsoft to publish in mid-July. Unfortunately it takes Microsoft several weeks to publish updates, and there is a large queue of many developers submitting updates at the same time. We expect the update to be live soon.. though we have no estimate from Microsoft.
  3. Since I don't want to have to use installers other than Orbx Central and the MSFS Marketplace, I always welcome partnership announcements like this. Aerosoft's MSFS products aren't up to the same level of quality as Orbx, but they have unique offerings and its great to have them available on this platform.
  4. I'm starting to realize that I prefer products like this to actual airports as most of the default ones are fine for me since I'm not a real pilot. I bought the London pack on day one. Bought Paris on day one. Gonna buy this on day one. And since Asobo increased performance dramatically in SU5 for me (I no longer am consider the jump from 16GB to 32GB of RAM!), which downloaded and installed flawlessly and works as expected for 99% of us, I now fly around London happier and snappier than I ever have. Can't wait to do the same in other parts of Britain! Thanks Orbx!
  5. Did you install (via Content Manager) the updates to the previous World Updates? There were a few gigabytes of updates for the UK update from Asobo, but it has to be installed separately from SU5.
  6. There is nothing fundamental about either that would keep them from eventually appearing on Xbox. It is interesting that every single World Update was also updated for Sim Update 5. Makes we wonder if we are all about to see a ton of airport/scenery updates from Orbx and others that may make them more compatible with Xbox and Sim Update 5.
  7. I think it is fair to say that every built-in scenery, and every freeware or payware scenery will benefit ultimately for the performance improvements in SU5. There are no performance improvements on Xbox since this will be the first version for Xbox and it will be the baseline by which to measure future performance gains on that platform. No one today can tell you if some scenery under every scenery will be 100% free of stuttering, but scenery developers have learned a lot about MSFS performance over the past year and I would expect that any such issues on Xbox will likely be addressed quickly. My own expectation is that there will be none with the Sydney pack on Xbox on launch, but that's just an educated guess. We'll all know within 24 hours of launch just what kind of performance MSFS on Xbox provides and until then, it is guesswork.
  8. As someone who lives in the desert, 45°C in the desert is FAR from harmless, even with 6% humility. We do joke about it being a "dry heat," but it kills people every year. The overnights above 90 Fahrenheit can also be deadly as it does not give the body time to cool off in a 24 hour period. And for locations that are not used to intense heat, the effect is far worse. Many do not have air conditioning. British Columbia saw hundreds die in less than a week due to the recent heatwave. "Earlier this week, Lytton, about 150 kilometres northeast of Vancouver, recorded the highest temperature ever seen in Canada on three consecutive days, topping out at 49.6 C on Tuesday as an unprecedented heat wave scorched Western Canada."
  9. Orbx is claiming that such purchases will be available on Xbox, but I don't believe it. How exactly is Orbx communicating our purchase details to Microsoft so that these purchases show up on Xbox? They aren't. Nor can they. Orbx doesn't have our Xbox login usernames. So I think they better update that advice to say that only purchases through the MSFS Marketplace will be "free" on Xbox.
  10. I bought a machine last July specifically for running MSFS and it was $850 for the entire brand new Alienware. I only run at 1080p, but I have never been disappointed in MSFS performance, and Asobo's new update should improve performance even more. You don't need an outrageous PC to enjoy MSFS, and GPU prices are ludicrous in general, and particularly right now. Even with that 3060, the PC you listed will be far more powerful than the vast majority of MSFS users have. If you are going to go all the way, go ahead and get 32GB of RAM rather than 16. And don't worry about RAID. The way you are planning to use those three drives is almost exactly what I have done and I do not regret it.
  11. Not sure that the addons that run as Windows apps can be converted to Xbox. As a game console only, it provides a very limited experience versus a PC with a real operating system. It's one reason the newly announced third-party A320 won't ever be available on Xbox.
  12. Once I got over the desire to print out photographs, I ditched my last color inkjet in 2008. I still have my Laserjet 4 from 1994. Reliable and easy to find toner and would be easy to find replacement parts for. I can't imagine any product from the current HP lasting 10 years, but they made quality in the 20th Century.
  13. Orbx has absolutely no control over that and cannot say. That is 100% a question for Microsoft (that they won't answer). Orbx submits it to the Marketplace and then Microsoft takes its time before eventually posting it. Same thing for updates. Those of us who buy directly from Orbx always end up getting updates much sooner than Marketplace purchasers simply because of the process Microsoft has in place and there is nothing Orbx can do about it. A guess would be that Van Nuys will show up at the same exact time as the next update for MSFS.
  14. I'd rather go without a favorite airport than to have one that is clearly a bad port from an obsolete sim even at these prices. Orbx needs to do better than to merely name them Throwback Thursday. They need a better marketing name that makes it clear that these are not up to Orbx usual standard. Otherwise they really cheapen the brand.
  15. There have been many great reviews of Orbx products posted all over the 'Net since March 14th and yet this forum remains dormant. Just wondering if Orbx plans to discontinue this forum?
  16. Ethical? OMG! If it means that much to you, why not keep a spreadsheet with all of your costs by company? That way if they do something that is actually unethical, like lie to you in their imaginary "total inventory $cost" listing, you won't be fooled. I mean I know it makes me sound ancient, but back in the day we tracked our expenses ourselves rather than relying on the cloud. And yet still I never accidentally spent the family fortune on DLC. It is what us old-timers used to call "personal responsibility" before that phrase was deemed offensive.
  17. Weird. It shows up in the Orbx Central app but not on the website! A search on the website shows zero results for "frankfurt." Until they fix that, you should be able to purchase through Orbx Central.
  18. Same here. MSFS will always be my sim of choice and the flightsim world is moving forward. This understandably has created anger among some of those who are still using the older platforms, and some have invoked the age-old tactic of fear/uncertainty/doubt (FUD) as each of their previous criticisms has been addressed by Asobo. Suggesting that MSFT "could" abandon the incredibly successful platform is FUD. MS isn't going to abandon MSFS (a showcase for Azure/Bing) and, even if they did, we would still be able to use it AND companies like Orbx could make new imagery to make up for anything lost from Bing. It is disappointing but hardly surprising to see someone resort to that, but the truth is that FlightSim runs fine (though not as pretty) without streaming and if you don't understand that, please don't spread misinformation about it. Now back to flying my "new" study-level DC-6 into Kai-Tak.
  19. You think THAT'S hot. Try the 47.7 Celsius I enjoyed this week in Phoenix. And, according to local news, it wasn't even our high for the week...
  20. Many airports have those. Fire crews use them as training aids.
  21. It does make sense, I am sure you will agree, for Asobo to update the most important and used regions of the world first. I also cannot imagine being bored with any of the world updates so far. They have been great with upgraded airports and provided at no cost.
  22. I look at the previews of every airport Orbx makes. I'm really impressed with this one. Great job, Mr. Veneziani!
  23. Just to let you know, Aerosoft is the exclusive seller of the DVD version. They provide support in their forums for their product. This particular question has been asked and answered over there many times since last August.
  24. If you install freeware addons, always check to make sure you don't have one the covers the same area as the scenery you just purchased. You will end up with models on top of one another and all sorts of other weirdness that others won't be able to reproduce.
