  1. Did some playing around with undervolting the 5800X via curve optimiser in the bios tonight. Only did testing in MSFS2020, no real benchmarking as such, and dropped the voltage across all cores with a negative 30 offset. Not seen a massive difference if I am being honest - a little drop in power use according to HWMonitor of around 15W and perhaps running slightly cooler but it does vary be run. The biggest difference I can determine by monitoring inflight using MSI Afterburner is I'm staying on the max 4850MHz across all cores for far longer. Screenshot of Afterburner attached but hitting that frequency across all cores and 58oC seems solid performance air, cooled in MSFS2020.

I used the following video as a guide but given he saw limited results with the 5950X, I wonder if the full 8 core CCXs are already running very close to optimised as opposed to the 5600X and 5900X.

  2. Got an email from Ebuyer saying they no longer have stock of the AMD 6800XT - I opted for the email option for joining a queue on a first come serve basis to secure one of the cards. This was about 10 mins after the launch on the 18th. I can only assume this means they got their shipment of cards for tomorrow’s partner launch and they didn’t get too many. Not looking to hopeful now but will be trying to buy from somewhere regardless.

  3. Will do. I'm sure you will be more than happy with the Zotac. I do think there will be more demand for the GPUs than the CPUs but I'm hopefully the botched Nvidia release has AMD not wanting to repeat the same mistake so hopefully a bit more stock i.e. long enough to get one in the basket and checkout. We always have the partner releases expected about a week or two later as a second opportunity to purchase so I'm confident I'll get something.

  4. Hi, I ordered from Ebuyer. Due for delivery today - currently at local delivery office. I deliberated over ordering for half an hour and the other stores sold out but I’ve always had great service from Ebuyer.
At least I know what time the GPUs will go on sale on the 18th which is my main purchase.
Keep us posted on your progress.

    Cheers, Andy.

  5. Good luck with the shopping, I’m sure you’ll be successful. What shops are you keeping an eye on? I’m still undecided on doing the cpu first. In MSFS2020 I’m always gpu bound but in XP11 I was sometimes cpu bound but I’m getting better performance with the switch to Vulkan rendering. I might just upgrade the gpu first then see how both sims are looking.

  6. Currently running a MSI x570 mobo with Ryzen 3600, RTX 2070 & 32gb 3600mhz cl16 ram and 2 NVME drives. I’m usually cpu bound in X-Plane but definitely gpu bound in MSFS. I’m running on a 3440x1440 ultra wide so not at full 4K.

Planning on upgrading both cpu and gpu - was tempted to go top for both but being Scottish, I like to get value for money but not sure the big jump in price is worth the minimum gain. I’ll actually go for a new gpu first then see how well it plays with my current Ryzen but the clock and ipc gains on zen 3 are too tempting for me to resist.

Yup, I’m down in Bathgate near Edinburgh.
