  2. I use a payware Samedan so I did not notice. Not sure about the purpose of this thread -- is it necessary? It is a free offering, simply remove the ones that you do not like. Certainly I would hate for the author of all these EU freeware airports to feel discouraged. Or are you suggesting that he should improve them or make them better fit some photoreal scenery going forward? I am inclined to agree with your observations but I am not sure ORBX can be held to the standard of having to exactly fit a photoreal third party offering. Just remove all the swiss airports and be done with it. I can tell you that I have released just a handful (less than 10) of these FTX freeware airports and I am certainly no expert, except I am certainly qualified to state that they are NOT easy to do and do well, to the standards of Neil and JV. Many of my efforts were rejected, in the beginning, but later I got better, with some tutoring. Recently I had one substandard airport which be getting corrected in the next batch. It is quite humbling.

  3. G'day guys, As we all wait with excitement for Tim and Ken's amazing Samoan Experience, I'd love to show a few screenshots from the latest triple-installer I've been working on, KJAC Jackson Hole Airport for the Central Rockies region. Originally released in mid-2012, Jackson Hole was an expansive project that aimed to recreate not only one of the most scenic airport approaches in the US, but also the entire Teton Range and several surrounding towns and villages. A favourite with both procedural airline simmers and GA enthusiasts alike, the airport is notoriously difficult to fly into during certain parts of the year; unpredictable weather, a short runway and high altitude can make Jackson Hole a challenging location. As the tourist gateway to both Grand Teton and nearby Yellowstone National Parks, expect a mix of airliner traffic, corporate bijzets and private GA aircraft. In addition to a fully-compatible P3Dv2 version, there have been some additions, changes and fixes to the FSX version to bring it up to 2015 standards. Coverage Area: New Features for Triple Installer/Service Pack 1: - Full compatibility with Prepar3d V2 - Replaced all legacy AGN lighting with new performance-friendly lighting - New runway and apron lighting system for better performance and consistent display results on all systems - Updated FSX models to counter some DX10 lighting issues - Minor updates to some ground poly detail textures (lines etc) - Other visual fixes and minor updates nb. For full product details and information, please visit the Jackson Hole Product Page. And of course, for anyone considering picking up a copy of Jackson Hole for the first time, don't forget that it is heavily discounted until the end of the month! Enjoy! Jarrad And a couple of shots from FSX

  5. Hi all, I am very proud to introduce my latest project, KSTS Sonoma County Regional Airport for FSX/P3Dv2, in Northern California. This has been a 9 month project and by far the most intensive thus far, with hundreds upon hundreds of models in both the airport and surrounding area. Features include: - Over 250km sq of annotated and modelled photoreal terrain to explore. - Incredibly crisp 7cm resolution at airport, 30/60cm in surroundings. - A FULL Santa Rosa cityscape modelled, with many local landmarks, and a fully custom modelled town centre. - Covers KSTS, Windsor, Santa Rosa, Mt St Helena, and a vast area in between - Advanced AO baking techniques for realistic shadowing - Custom Vegetation at airport. - Internal modelling of terminal and restaurant. - Suitable for the Q400 and airline operations. And much more! COVERAGE MAP: A special thanks to forum member Will Clark for photographing the airport for me last year. Would not have been possible without your help mate!! Enjoy the previews!! (all from FSX at the moment) Cheers, Misha

  7. Jim, I think you'll find that Steve's Fixer was not designed to improve frame rates or overall performance of FSX, etc., but to cure problems with the faulty DX10, with shadows/shading, water textures, sun reflections, and the like. So if you ditched the Fixer because it didn't improve your fps, I would suggest rethinking your strategy. I've been running DX10 for many months now, with the Fixer in tow and nVidia Inspector beefing up my GTX770, and I don't anticipate ever going back to DX9. The GTX980 gpu won't solve any of those DX10 problems, with or without the Inspector. Just my thoughts.... Stew

  13. I've had a bit too much to drink, but I'll go ahead and keep the theme going. I love the fact that we don't have the world's most advanced gathering of air combat tactical freaking experts here on these forums - you know, guys that seem to be specialists in air-to-air and air-to-ground tactics for literally whatever aircraft you want to discuss. Hey, great if you work for Boeing or Lockheed or Grumman or whomever, but I am damn sure 99% of you don't, and the 1% that does wouldn't be risking his freaking secret codeword cleared-for-wierd clearance discussing whatever topic with a bunch of accountants, sales reps and truck-drivers like us anyway. Sure there are a handful that are actually in the service and I wish you guys nothing but the best (thank you for what you do or did), but you know who you are. This is coming from a Navy vet with some ribbons, much like Shipdriver and a few other OBRX forum members. It is the jackass that starts the F-15/F-16/FA-18 vs whatever airframe confrontation(like you grew up in a Nellis briefing room or something) that I truly do NOT miss on ORBX forums. You guys are know what forums to visit, thankfully, and it isn't this one. God bless the old guys that just want to putz around VFR and enjoy the 'whatever' fields and mountains and streams below him. Honestly.

  21. Hi Teecee, If you mean navigation charts, I don't use any chart program, just skyvector on a browser, which you might find acceptable. For approach charts, usually each country has their own collection of downloadable PDFs on a website, e.g. USA, Canada, UK. There may be programs that combine all these, but I'm not aware of them.

  22. Great to see you back Jim, have a read of this it should give you an idea of what to do. I hope you get up and running and have some fun with your sim. http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/31552-installation-instructions-for-orbx-regions/ cheers Iain

  23. I also believe the tablecloths are made out of a laminate poly-blend material. These look like they are cloth. My immersion is broken. Seriously though, this is like a mini-full fat region in a single package. After browsing around google maps at the coverage area, it hurts my head to imagine what it must have been like to model, hand place, and verify all of those buildings, roads, and neighborhoods. This may be the greatest ORBX product to date. *Edit* - I just realized this is my 200th post. So I'll be hosting a party online at this airport when its released. Meet me by the wine bar next to the restaurant for celebratory glass or merlot.

  24. Hi Jim, I'm not sure how long you've been away, so apologies if you know this stuff already. For a start, you might consider the newer version of FSX, the Steam Edition. This is a tidied-up version with recompiled code and a few other improvements, though is essentially the same. Also available is Lockheed Martin's Prepar3D which is also improved, and on which development is continuing. Whatever sim you use, make sure you download the latest versions of Orbx scenery from the FlightSimStore. Check the support page for any patches, and also make sure you install the latest Orbxlibs last of all. Those libs will give you a utility called FTX Central 2, and you use that to configure all aspects of the scenery, as well as check for future updates. Have fun!

  28. Welcome Belinda. Your reference to man caves reminds me of something. My wife has a 'woman cave'. The finished basement with a fireplace is hers. She has her computer, quilting apparatus, sewing machine, TV set, recliner, and even a trundle bed down there so when she gets mad at me I don't have to sleep on the couch. She just retreats to her woman cave untl she decides she wants to talk to me again. In gift shops and Hobby Lobby I see various 'man cave' signs but have never seen a 'woman cave' sign. I'd like to get one to hang on the stairway going down to 'her' basement. Noel
